Main Aims

  • To provide product writing practice of a description in the context of friendship

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about describing the best friend in the context of competition entry to find the best friend

Procedure

Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To generate the interest in the topic and set lesson context

• T asks Ss "is your friend the best friend in the world? why?" • T gives Ss time to discuss the Q in pairs or groups • T monitors to FB

Model Reading ( reading for the gist) (6-8 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

• T explains about a competition entry, seeking for the best friend in the world; ppl write about their best friend and if they win, they'll earn a ticket to a favorite place. • T says that Ss first read about Julia's best friend and answer "why are they good friends?" • T pre-teaches any blocking words if necessary; following MPF • when Ss finishes the task, in pairs or groups discuss their understanding • T monitors to FB

Brainstorming (4-5 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

• T projects a series of Qs (not in order) and gives Ss time to provide one or two-word answers for them and re-order the Qs based on their appearance in the text. • Ss discuss their answers in pairs, T monitors to FB

Writing task (10-14 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice writing fluency

• T explains that now it's time to write for the competition, the friend description will be chosen to send in the entry. • SS work alone in writing about 60 words • T monitors and FBs on the language if necessary or needed. • Ss check their answers (or if the platform allows, exchange their writings for peer FB. • T monitors to FB

Feedback and Error Correction (4-6 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

• T gives FB on both language and content
