Main Aims

  • To provide the students with the necessary elements and language devices used in the process of writing a formal letter of request or suggestion

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide the useful target language such as appropriate phrases used in such a letter

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I'll engage the attention of the class by asking the students if they have any advises or suggestions for our manufacturers or companies, on how they can improve the quality of their products or raw material which is used in their factories, and if they have what is the best way of expressing this advise or suggestion.

Exposure (5-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I'll show the students a letter template, and will distinguish different elements by drawing a layout for the letter, and then i'll explain each specific part of the letter. afterwards they can see an actual suggestion letter template written by an official in a company, they are then asked to read it and get the gist.

Useful Language (10-12 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

in this stage the students are going to get familiar with the useful language used in this productive task which consists of opening and closing expressions or phrases, such as greeting phrases for different recipients, and also the different ways to address the receiving entity or organization in the most impressive and influential manner possible, i'll then show some examples of the target language needed for such a letter.

Productive Task(s) (15-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

for this stage the students are asked to come up with their own letters of suggestion, their letter should address an official company, entity, or organization in charge of a heritage attraction site. it should contain at least one advise on how these entities can sustain or improve this heritage site,

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

the students will be asked to write a short and summarized draft of their letter and have their classmate inspect it and receive some ideas or thoughts on their drafts, then the drafts are collected and the students will be given some notes on how to write their actual letter.
