LP for TP7
Intermediate level

Description

In this lesson, students will learn about movie reviews and how to develop and write one. It will start with the contextualization of the topic (films) and then provide a model with relevant tasks and activities to familiarize the students with the elements, language, and outline of film reviews. It will also initiate students into undertaking one such task tentatively on their own to get a taste and flavor of how such writing is achieved.

Main Aims

  • To provide Ss with the opportunity to get familiar with basic film review writing and how to develop one independently.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide reading practice and help improve Ss understanding of elements of a reading text.
  • To provide Ss with an opportunity to discuss a topic (fluency) and exchange viewpoints effectively (accuracy).

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

T will set the lesson objective and share a link to contextualize the topic (film reviews) T will ask Ss Qs on what they know about the 3 movie shots shared via Jamboard T will elicit info and gauge Ss interest in movie types

Exposure (Gist) (4-6 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

Gist task: T will share a model (he developed) with Ss and ask Ss to read it quickly for gist. T will ask Ss to answer follow-up Qs independently first and then compare them together. T will provide feedback on correct responses when necessary.

Exposure (Layout) (5-6 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks (detail cont.)

T will share another link with the same text this time jumbled. T will assign Ss to order the paragraphs and choose proper headings. T will elicit responses on the Qs and get Ss to compare them.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

T will share a new Jamboard link with Ss and do the new language analysis (MFA) T will roll out the first slide with the functional language needed for writing the review and elicit the elements required to achieve the above from Ss. T will present slides on Form and Appropriacy and elicit as well as CCQ the points presented by asking for language tense, and proper styles for the writing piece.

T will share separate Google docs with Ss and instruct them to follow suit now and use the language awareness as well as outline they've been presented with to attempt one such review on their own. T will ICQ the task and CCQ the elements for success/task achievement in doing the activity. T will monitor Ss writings and provide written comments for each S as they go about doing their task.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

T will ask Ss to compare their pieces in pairs. T will provide OC feedback and DEC
