Main Aims

  • To provide of second conditional in the context of imaginary and hypothetical future situations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of imaginary and hypothetical future situations.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start to talk about one of my favorite daydream and I also mention what l would do if I were invisible. For instance ,I express ''If I were invisible,I would go wherever l want and no one could notice me.

Exposure (2-3 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I want my students to talk about an imaginary and hypothetical future situations. In addition to speaking about their imaginations,I ask my students some questions: If you won a lottery, what would you buy? What would you do if you saw a mouse in your kitchen?

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write two second conditional sentences on the board. Two sentences are: If l were you,l would take that job If she didn't have to work tomorrow, she could help me.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will start clarifying the meaning by inquiring these questions:Am l you?Can l take that job? Does she have to work? Can she help me? I will also elicit the structure of second conditional sentence. I will also say how to make the second conditional negative or how to change them into question. Four tips: *The if-clause can come first or second.Be careful about comma! *Were is used with all persons *The expression ''If l were you,..''is used for advice. *Would+base form without an if-clause is sometimes known as a conditional tense. Then if I have enough time, I review first conditional and helped them to be aware of the differences between conditional type1 and type2.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to the exercise on page 143 individually and then going to check in pairs. The answers will be checked with the whole class at the end.

Free Practice (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students are going to work in groups of three. They will practice on exercise 5 on page 71. They will take turns choosing a question and asking the others in the group.
