Roles and signs.
A1 level

Description

In this lesson, students learn about the rules. The lesson begins with three questions to see the student's prior knowledge, and the game's rule memo. Subsequently, they look at images of places to identify and share rules that must be followed in those places. Finally we watch a video that takes place in an art museum, we listen and if necessary we look at the subtitles to note in the notebook the rules and signs that the museum has.

Main Aims

  • To provide specific information and deduction

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ask: where do they like to go for a walk? What rules does that place have? What rules do you have?. We'll play rules memo: In pairs, a memo of rules will be provided, pieces will be placed face down on their bench table. The first player lifts 1 token, he must read aloud the rule that mentions that token, he will choose another token, which he must also read aloud, if the rules match, he takes them and continues picking up two more. If, on the other hand, they do not match, he leaves them face down again in the same place and passes the turn to the next player. The one who forms the greatest number of pairs wins.

Exposure (15-20 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Give a name of a place to each student, they must listen very well, remember or write down that place, since this will be the way in which they will work in teams, there must be at least three students with the same place. An image of that place will be given, the team members must talk and each write down a rule for that place on the back.

Highlighting (5-8 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Mention that the rules of coexistence are the agreements that allow you to have a harmonious and respectful relationship in your group; they are very important in a classroom to avoid conflicts. Mention the classroom rules.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Show the video: In an art museum https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UL9JNoI48tY Ask them to listen carefully to the rules and observe the signs displayed in the museum, they will be able to see the subtitles. Ask them to write in their notebook the rules and instructions that a museum has.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ask them to draw up a sign on a white sheet of paper that they remember seeing somewhere. Share your drawing and explanation among classmates.
