  • To provide clarification of present continuos going to and will to talk about the future plans in the context of a friendsĀ“conversation

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a coversation in the context of future plans about two friends visiting NYC

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will ask my Ss if they would like to visit New York City for free. What places would you visit or maybe re-visit?

Exposure (3-4 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask my Ss to read the text and tell me what it is about. I want them to identify the main idea and the context of the conversation. What is the topic about? Who is talking? What is the relation between the two speakers? What city are they planning to visit?

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will ask Ss to underline all examples of the TL (going to and will) in the text

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

MEANING I will ask some CCQ for Ss to identify Meaning. 1. I am going to explore the city next month. When is the action taking place? Is the action completed? is he talking about planned future events? FORM I will ask my Ss to identify the different components in the structure. SUBJECT + BE + GOING TO + INFINITIVE (planned future event) I + am + _______+ _______ I will explain my Ss we use "will" with the bare infinitive of the mainn verb SUBJECT + WILL + BARE INFINITIVE (unplanned future events) I + ________ + visit PRONUNCIATION a. Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I will ask Ss to complete sentences using the correct form of the verb. I will ask Ss to compare answers and provide feedback

Free Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask Ss to answer the following questions: 1. If you were to pick a city within your country to visit, which city would you select and what kind of plans would you make DEC 1. I will visiting Macchu Picchu
