Procedure (49-64 minutes)
Tr asks the Sts if they have been to a party and elicits what people usually do at a party.
The teacher shows the picture of Jakes' surprise party and elicits to see if Sts know how to pronounce each name. Sts match the sentences to the names and decide if they are True or False. Sts check their answers in pairs.
Tr asks the Ss to underline all the verbs in the sentences. Sts choose the correct option to complete the rules and check their answers in pairs.
Tr asks CCQs like "Who is eating a sandwich?/ Is she eating now?/ Has she finished eating?" If needed, Tr uses timelines to clarify the meaning and the use. Next, Tr boards a marker sentence "Jenny is writing an email" and elicit the negative and question form of present continuous. Tr elicits the pronunciation of "he's" " she's" "isn't" "aren't" and does choral drills, followed by drilling in groups and individuals.
Sts write the sentences with the help of prompts in exercise 3 and then check their answers in pairs.
Sts complete the gapped questions. Sts write their true answers using present continuous. Tr monitors and provides help where necessary. When Sts have completed the task, they ask and answer the questions in pairs. Tr monitors and makes notes on their performance.
Sts work in pairs. Tr provide each student with a similar picture with some differences. Sts ask their partner questions using present continuous to find out the differences. Tr monitors and makes notes of the language errors. Tr boards both the good use of language and errors. Sts discuss in groups and make decisions about each sentence. Tr elicits their opinions and confirms the answers.
