Procedure (36-46 minutes)
-Present Google slide with question "What kind of things would you like to know about somebody before dating them?" -Ensure students know what online dating is, and ask them to discuss what kind of things they would like to know about before dating somebody. -Instruct students to discuss question in BOR's ICQ "What are you going to be talking about in the BOR's?"
-Send google doc of conversation in chat and make sure everybody received. -Present slide with question. "So Monica and Miguel are not dating yet but they are talking online. I want you to read Monica and Miguel's conversation and predict if they are going to go on a date. -"Read the conversation individually and then you discuss your predictions in pairs". ICQ-"What question do I want you to answer after reading?" -Have students read for 2 mins tops and then put in pairs. -ICQ "What question do I want you to talk about with your partner?" -BOR for 2 mins -OCFB- Elicit a few answers from students-"Why do you think Monica and Miguel would or would not go out on a date" -Present slide with remainder of conversation.
-Present slides with matching questions. "Look at the pairs of questions and match what kind of information they are asking for" CCQs-When I use like in "What does she look like" what does like mean? A: Describe or compare to CCQ's-When I use like in "What do you like doing" what does like mean? A: enjoy, to like CCQ's "What does the 's mean in What's" is or what is -Drill sentences chorally or individually with students -Drill students on contraction What's (Repeat: What, What's) -Conduct fill in the blank with correct pronouns. CCQ's"Why would you use he/she here after does" A: "Because it is in the third person" CCQs-"How do I know its in the third person" CCQ-"How do I know this sentence is in the second person" -Explain with text on slide if necessary .
-Send Google Form of multiple choice questions. -Share screen of Google form and do example."So the information is a response to question and I want to select the correct question, so they are like reverse questions" -"You will have 3 minutes to do the questions individually and then you will check your answers in pairs for about 3mins". -ICQ "So are you going to do the questions in pairs" A:"No we are going to do individually and then check your answers in pairs". "Exactly. Then we will get back together and talk about the questions. -Students do questions, then BOR's OCFB- Review questions as a class, elicit answers from students. CCQ "So how do I know that question is the correct one for the sentence. What words are being used to tell me that"
-Present google slide of freer practice instructions. "So you are going to go into groups and I want you to think of questions you could ask somebody if you were online dating. Think of 5-10 questions with "like". They do not have to be questions with "what" they just have to have "like" in them. -Review possible question collocations. -"So you are going to create the questions in groups for about 5 or 6 mins then we will come back together as a class. -ICQ: "So do I want you to ask questions to group?" "No. We are suppose to think of questions as a group, with like, to ask somebody we are online dating" -ICQ:"Can we use any question with like" "Yes any question with like" -Put students in BOR's, Monitor BOR's. -OCFB- Elicit and discuss some of questions from groups or students. Write responses on slides. -DEC-Discuss some of the questions from freer practice if there are errors, or errors from BOR monitoring.
