Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Narrative tenses and past perfect in the context of World literature

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy in speaking

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (10-12 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the warmer with a review of the previous lesson and ask them what they remember about it ( it was a reading task about a novel ) then I set up the theme for storytelling by asking them whether they know any famous characters in english literature . At the end I ask them if they know any of their childhood stories and then I will tell them my own.

Exposure (20-25 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Ask them to open their books and take a look at the starter part and guess the titles : Hamlet , Oliver twist , Sherlock Holmes and Alice in the wonderland, Ask them whether they already know the title and ask them to choose one of them in their pairs and talk about the moral of the story. Then I lead in to the next part by asking them if they know Aesop and his stories. (the world fable will be pre teached if necessary.) After doing so I ask them to look at the picture and guess what is going on and after that ask them to read it carefully . Words like : terrified , sniff , companion will be pre teached if necessary then ask if they got the moral of the story... Ask them to do the task in their coursebook as a review for past simple and past continuous. Then check it in pairs and after all of that check it with the audio file. At last I ask them to do the next part and check it with the audio file ...

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Ask them to take a look at the highlighted phrases and guess their meaning and their usage in the context , take a look back to the book if necessary...

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

ask them to do the next task and then check it in groups, next I will ask them to close their books then I draw a timeline and start teaching Past perfect using the story in the book and clarify its usage and how to make past perfect sentences then ask them to make a sentence of their own then correct the errors if necessary before moving to the next pair work .

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

give them instructions for the next task in pairs while monitoring them carefully for any errors and write them down and after 2 or 3 controlled practices do a group correction with whole class participating then I give them a hand outs of my own for some extra practice and after that they check their answers in pairs and read the answers to the class then I write the correct answers on whiteboard correcting any errors if necessary.

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

in this stage I will ask them to a task in their workbook and my second sets of hand outs , here I try to monitor them less strictly and just use the self and pair corrections , teacher correction will be at minimum...

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will write a subject on the board and ask them to talk about their own experiences related to the subject in groups of four then I will ask them about their understandings about the whole lesson and finish the class with instructions for their home work.
