To provide practice of language used for asking and giving directions in the context of getting lost in the city.

To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a dialogue in the context of asking and giving directions following a city map.
Procedure (33-44 minutes)
T greets students, and shows the Google Slides, then asks students "What do you do if you get lost in a different town or city with no car or phone?" and ask them to discuss in pairs. SS share their answers. T conducts OCFB.
Teacher hands HO1 plays audio 2.8 (a dialogue between two people asking and giving directions) and asks students to draw the path on the map. Students compare their answers OCFB
T changes the slide and asks ss to complete the missing phrases from the dialogue they just heard in pairs. SS compare with another student from the other pair OCFB (3) Then ss are asked to group phrases from the dialogue in each category individually: Giving directions, Checking understanding and Asking for directions Ss compare their answers OCFB (2 min) T changes the slide; students need to listen carefully to the intonation. T asks "What happens to the voice of the speakers? Close your eyes and listen. Does it go up or down?" S indicate with the arrows and T conducts OCFB (2 min)
T hands next HO (Slide 15) and asks students to order the conversation correctly. SS compare their answers, OCFB
T changes to slide 18 and tells SS they are going to ask and give directions using the phrases and questions they just practiced throughout the class. Assigns roles to each student. Student A should ask how to get: "From the National Library to the University Church From the National Library to the University Church From the National Library to your choice of destination From any starting point in the map to any destination in the map (your choice)." And Student B should ask how to get: "From Trinity College to the National Museum From Trinity College to the Mansion House From Trinity College to your choice of destination From any starting point in the map to any destination in the map (your choice)" Both students should take turns and give directions to each other. T sends them into BROs and monitors
Teacher takes ss out from the BROs and writes some sentences they have produced on the whiteboard. Asks ss to discuss if they need any corrections in pairs. OCFB. T ends class.
