In this lesson , the students are going to learn some new vocabularies about sports and will concentrate on the meaning of the text.

Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about Sports in the context of Why are not woman’s sports as popular as men’s

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of Sports in the context of Why aren’t women’s sports as popular as men’s

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start to talk about the sports that are interesting to me and I prefer to follow and watch them on TV, as well as the sport that I do these days. Then i will ask my students to talk about their favorite sports.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-15 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage I will teach the students some key vocabularies of the text using some pictures to help them learn better. Then they are going to answer some questions about the matching the new words to pictures.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The pupils are going to answer the question why aren’t women’s sports as popular as men’s. Then they are given about 2 minutes to read the paragraph c and share their answers with the whole class.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

The students are going to read the text deeper and answer some matching questions with the paragraphs from A-F. They will check the answers in pairs after that with the whole class.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The students are going to be separated into groups of three and discuss about differences between women’s sports and man’s and which one is more interesting.
