To provide clarification of defensive pessimism in the context of negative thinking
Procedure (30-39 minutes)
The teacher starts talking about her personality and negative thoughts she have. She asks the students to say if they are optimists or pessimists.
In this step the teacher will teach the students some key lexis of the text and explain their meanings of them. Then teacher writes new words in one column and synonyms in another column on the board. The students are going to match the words with its meaning in their groups and at the end answers are checked with the whole class.
The students are going to answer the question: Is the girl pessimist or optimist?/What do you think about the word ''defensive pessimism''? They are given about 3 minutes to read the whole reading and share their answer with the class.
The students are going to read the text with more details and answer some questions related to the text in the page 47 part C. They will check their answers in groups and then with the whole class.
The students discuss the benefits of negative thinking and the way it 's impact their lives in their groups.
