Description

In this lesson Students will learn about Funtional Language used for making and responding to suggestions

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide gist listening practice using a text about responding and making suggestions in the context of activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a funtional language conversation in the context of activities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (5-6 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will provide Ss a model giving my own answers first on the introduction T When did I last go out with friends? 
 T Where did I go and whose idea was it to go there? 
 T Did you enjoy myself ? Why?/Why not? 
 Ss will give their own answers afterwards

Text-work (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading and listening

Ss will listen to a conversation for gist Ss will discuss what is the setting the speakers are in, context and what they are talking about Ss will be given questions about the text in which they will identify the TL Ss will make a list of some good places to go and things to do in the town/city they're in now. Ss will Agree on some things to do and when to do them. Using the language from previous practice in their conversation

Language Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming controlled practice

I will solve some fill in tasks with Ss where the TL is exposed I will ask Ss which of these words/phrases can't be followed by verb+ing: wouldn't mind, feel like, fancy, feel up to, I'd rather? Ss will be provided with a graphic where they will overlook at the stress, link and intonation of the TL Ss will be made to emphasise on the use of : I'd rather is followed by the infinitive: I'd rather give that a miss, if you don't mind. I’ll buy the cake tomorrow, ok? I’d rather you bought it today Are you going to tell them? No, I’d rather they didn’t know Ss will be made to emphasise on the use of : Wouldn't mind, feel like, fancy and feel up to are followed by verb+ing, a noun or a pronoun: I wouldn't mind going to that I will emphasise intonation, connective speech, sentence stress as it can be very important and can affect the meaning of FL

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will provide SS with space placing them into (bors) Ss will refer to the TL through a series of tasks in which they will underline and choose correct answers Ss will use between two and five words to complete sentences

Freer Practice Feedback and DEC (10-11 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

Ss will be provided with a task in which they will a conversation about making suggestions Ss will role play and present the dialogue to the class I will listen to the Ss carefully and monitor the activity making notes throughout the conversation I will give space to Ss to ask questions I will provide Ss feedback and highlight what it needs to be practiced to conclude the lesson
