intermediate level
Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide clarification of language used for showing contrast in sentences
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide clauses of purpose in an essay
Procedure (37-54 minutes)
i commence the lesson by providing students with two different sentences, and try to integrate them by utilizing clauses of contrast
i will engage the students by asking them to combine two different sentences with the use of clauses of contrast.
i will direct the attention of my students toward the Target language by writing an example on the board and explain to them some common mistakes and different ways to avoid making them.
first i'll provide my students with clauses of contrast and purpose on their own, and then i will show how they function when used to express contrast or purpose in a variety of situations or sentences, this way i can elicit the functionality in a more concise way. i will then show how an emphasizing tone can convey the meaning in a more clear way.
I'll have the students do the fill in the blank exercises on page 149 individually, and then have them check their answers with their classmates. by the end the answers will be discussed and checked with the whole class
for the final stage of the lesson, i will write different subjects on the board and then divide the students into groups to have conversations with one another using clauses of contrast and purpose with examples of personal situations or experiences relating to the subjects mentioned on the board.
