Description

in this lesson the students are going to learn about clauses of contrast and purpose through a variety of examples and personal situations . It will be followed by a speaking task about how the students can incorporate clauses of contrast and purpose in their sentences

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

i commence the lesson by providing students with two different sentences, and try to integrate them by utilizing clauses of contrast

Exposure (4-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

i will engage the students by asking them to combine two different sentences with the use of clauses of contrast.

Highlighting (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

i will direct the attention of my students toward the Target language by writing an example on the board and explain to them some common mistakes and different ways to avoid making them.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the function, pronunciation and the tone for the TL

first i'll provide my students with clauses of contrast and purpose on their own, and then i will show how they function when used to express contrast or purpose in a variety of situations or sentences, this way i can elicit the functionality in a more concise way. i will then show how an emphasizing tone can convey the meaning in a more clear way.

Controlled Practice (10-12 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

I'll have the students do the fill in the blank exercises on page 149 individually, and then have them check their answers with their classmates. by the end the answers will be discussed and checked with the whole class

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

for the final stage of the lesson, i will write different subjects on the board and then divide the students into groups to have conversations with one another using clauses of contrast and purpose with examples of personal situations or experiences relating to the subjects mentioned on the board.
