Main Aims

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

•T. shows some pictures of pet care and asks: What does a responsible owner do? •T. elicits responses from Ss (3 min) •OCFB (1 min)

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks. To create a need for new language.

•T. displays a video about being a responsible pet owner (2 min) •Ss give suggestions related to the video. (2 min) •OCFB (1 min)

Useful Language (9-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

• T. shares screen: 1) Imperatives: Model sentences: Keep your pet indoors / Take them to the vet. CCQ: Can we use imperatives to give instructions and suggestions? (Yes) CCQ: Do we need to use a subject pronoun? (No) 2) It's important + to infinitive Model sentence: It's important to vaccinate your pets. CCQ: When important is followed by a verb, is it infinitive or gerund? (Infinitive) CCQ: Can we use ¨It's important...¨ to express something you should do? (Yes) 3) Have to + Infinitive Model sentence: You have to provide clean water and a balanced diet. CCQ: Is ¨have to¨ followed by a gerund or infinitive? (Infinitive) CCQ: ¨Have to¨ means optional or mandatory? (Mandatory) 4) Vocabulary: Ss will see pictures - Rabies vaccine, is ¨vaccine a noun, a verb or an adjective? (Noun) - Dog biscuits, is ¨biscuits¨ a noun, a verb or an adjective? (Noun) - Leash, is ¨leash¨ a noun, a verb or an adjective? (Noun in the picture shown)

Productive Task(s) (17-18 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

•T. shares screen, Ss work in pairs in BOR and answer the following questions: 1) Is it important to be a responsible pet owner? Why? 2) What do you have to do to keep your pets healthy and happy? 3) When or how often should you take them to the vet? 4) Should we consider time and money before having a pet? Why? 5) Mention some reasons why people get pets. Are they good reasons or not? 6) In your opinion, is it a good idea to have kids around pets? 7) Do you have pets? How many? if not, would you like to have one?

Feedback and Error Correction (7-8 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

•T. will nominate some Ss. to share their classmates or their own opinions about the questions. (5 min) •T. shares a G slide to write down mistakes heard during the follow up and has Ss. identify correct and incorrect sentences so DEC focus on relevant vocabulary and verb form. (3 min)
