  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of celebrating the seasons and festivals

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

warm up: - ask ss (what makes you happy?) - if they didn't share first, I will share saying ( let me start. Actually for me spending time with my friends makes me really happy. What about you?) - lasts for 2 or 3 mins max.

Pre-Reading (6-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

1. PTV: sculpture: -I'll show them a photo of a mock-up. -Try to elicit “for 30 sec” -If any said it, I'll repeat it one more time. And ask CCQs. And continue drilling and so... - If didn’t, I'll say (okay, this is a sculpture). (it’s the art of creating or forming objects out of a material. Could be clay, wood, ice, or any other material). -Ask CCQs (so, do you create things yourself? They say yes) -Ask ss if they have any questions. -Drilling. -Showing the form. Theatre: -Show ss a photo of a theatre -If they got it. I'll repeat it one more time. -If they didn't, I’ll say (this is a stage, right? they say yes.), (another word like stage is theatre) (so, we call it theatre) -Drilling -Showing the form Costumes: -Show ss a photo about different costume. -Try to elicit -If ss didn’t know. I'll say: (this is a costume). (it’s a set of clothes for specific activity. We wear just it in specific situations or specific celebrations) -Ask CCQs (so, is it usual clothes? they say no). (Can we wear it every day? they say no). I say (no, just for specific activity.) Parades: -Show ss a photo of people in parade. -Try to elicit (for 30 sec) -Say the word (It’s parade). -Say: (guys you know “toot toot” when we were young?). (I'll act it). -Ask CCQs (so, is it with large number of people of small number? they say large number.) -Drilling -Showing the form 2. Lead in: (looking at the photos and answer the 2 questions) -say:( guys look at me please) -chest the hand outs -say: (guys do you see those 2 questions - point at it-) (I need you in pairs to look at those photos here - point at them-) ( and answer those 2 questions) ( you have 3 mins) - Ask ICQs (so, how many questions? they say 2) (will you answer them alone? they say with my partner) ( how many mins? they say 3) - Handouts. - say: (Ready? they say yes. I say: start) -After 2 mins I'll ask them (finished? they say not yet)...(I say okay 1 min left) - After the 3 mins I say (time is up) - Ask them (did you find them interesting? they say yes) I move to the gist task.

While-Reading #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

The gist task: (Read the article quickly and check your answers) Instructions: -Chest the handouts. -Grab the attention (saying: guys look at me) -Chest handouts and Say: (now I need you to read this article and check your answers, read quickly –don’t focus on details- just to check the answers. okay?) … (& you have 3 mins) -ICQs: so, will you read slowly or quickly? they say: quickly... How many mins? They say: 3 -Ask ss if they have any question. -Say: Ready... they say: yes …. I say: go. -After 2 mins: I say: finished? they say not yet... I say: 1 min left. Then, Feedback: -Let’s check together. - I read the first question. And ask: (what do you think in the first photo?) - I listen to the answer from a person. - So, in which country is it? they say: in Japan. - Ask if they all agree Do the same with the last photo again. - I’ll skip the second photo-

While-Reading #2 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed tasks

Specific task: (Read again and answer the 8 statements) Instructions: -Grab the attention. -Chest the handouts -Say: (we have here 8 statements.... you will read again and answer if they are true or false.) -Now I need you to read slowly and focus on details. -You have 5 mins. -ICQs: (so, will you read quickly or slowly?... they say slowly) (how many mins?... they say 5 mins) -I say: so, Ready?... they say: yes … I say: start. The feedback: -after 5 mins I show them the answers on screen and ask them to check the answers. -I ask them if they have any question.

Post-Reading (7-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The follow up activity: -Divide them into 2 groups by giving them numbers (1 and 2) -All with number 1 together and all with 2 together. Instructions: -Grab attention -Say: now I’ll divide you into 2 groups. So, please remember your number. -Saying the number to ss -Say: group 1 here – in the right-. And group 2 here – in the left- -Chest the handouts -Say: guys you see those 2 questions? they say yes. -I say: I want you discuss those 2 questions with your group. -And you have 5 mins. I will monitor to catch mistakes to give them feedback Feedback: -I’ll write the sentences with mistakes on the board -Correcting them by asking them “what do you think”
