Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Past continuous in the context of Vacations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Vacations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start the class by talking about last month in which I was preparing my belongings for vacation when it started raining and my vacation was destroyed.

Exposure (7-9 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask my students to talk about the actions that they were doing in the past for their vacation and something else stopped them like this:did you experience such a situation ? You wanted to go to holiday but something interrupted you . I will use their sentences to highlight the target language.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write some past continuous sentences on the board. I can choose from my students sentences and if they made some wrong sentences I will write the correct past continuous form on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will draw a timeline on the board and ask my learners whether the tense is related to past, present or future and after that i will determine the point on the timeline and ask some questions like did it happen ones or over a period of time ? (CCQ's) , their pronunciation and intonation will be examined as well.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will give an opportunity to my students to read some stories on page 21 of the American English File book to be motivated remember their experiences on their own vacations and share it to each other in the form of past continuous and at the end let me know about the sentences they made with the new tense.
