Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Peresent simple and future simple in the context of Summer

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Conversation in the context of Summer

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will start the class by telling my students about the things i will do in the future. The TL is used in the sentences that I make.

Exposure (4-5 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

In this stage I will ask my students to talk about the things they will do next summer. They may not use the correct form of the verb. I want to use their sentences to highlight the TL.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write one or two of the sentences that my students made in the correct form on the board to draw their attention to the TL.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will elicit the meaning of the TL. from the students using CCQs and a timeline to clarify when to use this tense. After that we work on the form (structure of the TL). The pronunciation of the verbs that need to be worked on is going to be practiced chorally with the class.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do exercise b on page 141 of the student's book in 4 minutes individually. They will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs and then we will check the answers together.

Free Practice (11-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students are going to have a conversation about their next summer in groups of 4 in 10 to 15 minutes. They will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
