Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of Passive voice in the context of Health and illness.

  • To provide review and practice of illness in the context of Health and illness.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To break an ice in a class and prepare students to the lesson.

Students interview each other and write down their partners' answers. 1 minute is given for each question.

Pre-Listening (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the audio material about Health insurance.

Each student is given a flash card with the name of his illness. Their task is to speak about a given illness without naming it, to let other students guess the hidden illness.

While-Listening #1 (1-2 minutes) • To provide students with the less challenging listening task.

Students need to listen to the audio and write down all the illnesses named above.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference listening tasks

Students answer questions while listening for the second time.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students answer the question "What are the benefits of having health insurance and what kinds of expenses can it cover in some cases?" by creating mindmap in groups of 3 people.

Grammar section (7-10 minutes) • To introduce and teach new grammar

Students are given short text examples about health and illness written in passive forms. Students need to find the difference in meanings between active and passive forms. Then they are given grammar rules with examples. After that, they need to create their own examples according to example.
