Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-4 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start the class talking about the things that I did yesterday to draw my students' attention to the concept of the lesson.

Exposure (5-7 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will ask my students to talk about the things they did yesterday. They may not use the correct form of the verb here. I will use their sentences to highlight the target language.

Highlighting (2-3 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I will write one or two of the sentences that my students made in the correct past simple form on the board to help me clarify the TL.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will draw a timeline on the board and ask the students if the sentences are related to the past, present or future. I will put the point on the timeline. Is the action finished or not? (CCQs) - I will elicit the form from the students to help them form the sentences correctly and the correct pronunciation of the verbs will be drilled in the class as well.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do exercise 1a on page 142 in 4 minutes individually and then they will have 2 minutes to check their answers in pairs. After that the answers will be checked with the whole class.

Free Practice (10-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

The students will have a conversation about their best holiday in 10 to 15 minutes in groups of 4. They will be monitored and feedback will be given at the end if needed.
