Description

In thid lesson students will enhance their speaking skills, skills of understanding and analysing line graphs and datas in graphs.

Main Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a Analyzing and describing graphs in the context of food

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of Useful language: Description and analysis in the context of graphs

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher asks questions related to the lesson, for example: - Can you understand graphs? And what about describing graphs in English?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of the task and highlight useful words and phrases

Teacher shows example of describing graph with usefull phrases: 1. The graph from (source) presents data on (title)… 2. The graph from (source) shows/ illustrates (title)… 3. Overall, there is / has been… / Generally, there is… 4. What you can see is… / From the graph we can see… 5. An analysis of the graph illustrates… 6. To provide evidence to my previous point the graph highlights…

Task (8-10 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

1. After showing an example, teacher gives another graph to provide opportuninty to describe graph. 2. Divides students into 5 groups of 4 members. 3. Students should speak to each other, analysing graph.

Post-task (8-10 minutes) • To allow students to present to whole class what they discussed

Then, each group will present their ideas and analysis about graph to the class. Students should provide evidences on the graph in presentation.
