Description

In this lesson students will learn passive voice through a text about " The Oscars". There will be a Lead-in in which students will discuss different questions related to the topic. After some reading activities ( reading for the gist and reading for specific information) sts will focus on the passive sentences in the text. They will do some matching activity in order to comprehend the meaning, structure and tense of the passives.

Main Aims

  • Grammar: To provide clarification of passive voice, its usage,meaning and structure in the context of The Oscars

Subsidiary Aims

  • Reading: To provide activities for skimming and scanning.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-7 minutes) • To warm sts up for the reading text

. put the pictures about the Oscars on WB. . Elicit "the oscars" from the students . Preteach "ceremony" and "nominate" . Give them HO1 ( exercise 2a) . they discuss the questions in pairs. . Ask sts to share their ideas.

Predicting the answers (5-8 minutes) • To provide sts with a scanning activity

. Students work in pairs and guess the answers of the questions in HO1 ( exercise 2b). . Give text to the sts and ask them what they know about the people in the photos. . Students scan the text and check their answers. . Help them with any vocabulary questions.

READING FOR SPECIFIC INFORMATION (ex. 3) (4-7 minutes) • To improve their receptive skills(reading for specific information)

. Write the numbers on papers and put them on WB . Tell students to can the text and find information about these numbers in the text.

Grammar: Controlled writing activity (4-7 minutes) • To establish passive \ active forms and differences between them

. tell sts to look at the text again and focus on the highlighted words. . Ask some CCQs in order to elicit "The passive" . Put the papers with sentences on WB. . Ask sts to match them. . When they are done ask more CCQs in order to establish the passive voice.

SEMI-CONTROLLED WRITING ACTIVITY. (5-8 minutes) • To establish the form of different passive forms

Give sts HO2 ( ex 4b). Tell them to look at the highlighted words in text and match them witht the tenses from the HO2 .Check the answers WC and correct any mistake
