Description

In this lesson, SS will read 2 texts about daily routines. The lesson starts with a discussion about their dream jobs, followed by the pre-teaching of 2 vocabs. Then, the context will be presented by a demo of my daily routine. They will start reading for gist and then for specific information. Finally, they will be involved in a pair activity where they will use my demo as an example to talk about their daily routines.

Main Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, SS will have practiced reading for gist and for specific information.

Subsidiary Aims

  • By the end of this lesson, SS will have practiced their speaking fluency through a speaking activity discussing their daily routines.

Procedure

Lead-in (5-0 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. I will start by showing the SS a slide with pictures of different professions. 2. They will Talk to each other about their dream jobs and share to the rest of the class.

Pre-Teaching Vocabulary (5 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible.

1. I will set the context by saying that now we will read about daily routines. 2. Before they start reading, I will teach them the meaning, pronunciation and form of 2 new vocabs.

While-Reading (10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading tasks

1. SS are asked to skim the 2 passages to know the general ideas. 2. They will answer 2 general questions, i.e. What are their jobs? Do they like them? 3. They will read, check their answers in pairs, and share with the rest of the class.

While-Reading #2 (15 minutes) • To provide students with a more detailed reading task.

1. After skimming the passage, SS are now ready to scan it for specific information. 2. They will be asked to read the questions first and then look for the answers individually. 3. After they finish, T will have them sit in different pairs to compare their answers. 4. I will monitor closely while taking notes of content/language errors.

Follow-up (10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

1. I will give a demo talking about my daily routine while filing in a similar exercise on the board to give them an idea of what they are expected to do. 2. They will take notes of their daily routines, and then discuss them in pairs. 3. Each Student will share his partner's daily routine with the rest of the class. 3. I will monitor and give content/language feedback at the end.
