In this lesson, students will have clarification and practice about future in the past

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification and practice of future in the past in the context of past plans and celebrations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a talking about future in the past in the context of past plans and celebrations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students are shown the passage they read asked to briefly summarize it. ppt page 2.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

The target language is the text is highlighted.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ccq's are ready and scripted into the ppt no 2 to clarify meaning. On ppt slide no 3 there are two new sentences to go over to clarifythe meaning more. CCQ's like "Did we visit, did we meet, were these in the past or in the present?" will be asked. Then, Ss will be asked to complete the gaps in the forms. They will be given a minute to think and 2 mins to check with their partner in breakout rooms, then the forms will be filled together with wholeclass feedback.

Controlled Practice (4-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

With the 4th page pf ppt, Ss will eb asked to find more examples of the target language. These examples will then be used to clarify the pronunciation of was/were unstressted versions and the word "supposed".

Semi-Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

Wiyh ppt slide number 5, the students will be asked to form sentences using target language for each image, completing the story. They will work on that in breakout rooms. when they come back, one sentence from each group will be asked, then the story will be listened to find out if their ideas match with the books'.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss will be given 3 minutes to think and take notes about their own experiences, prompted by the ppt page 6, then tell about them to their partners in breakout rooms. Upon their return, a few will be asked to summarize their partner's stories.

Feedback (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with points to be mindful about on their production of language

With the data collected while monitoring, some good examples as well as some mistakes will be gone over and explained. If there is no data, the extra controlled practice I added at the ppt page 8 can be done.
