Description

in this reading, students will read about the use of science to solve problems.

Main Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about solving a crime with science

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of bold vocabularies

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this stage, Students are asked 3 questions before start reading the text. they will think about each question for about 2-3 minutes (asking ICQs) and they answer the questions in their small groups and then share their ideas in the class.

Pre-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

In this stage, I will write blocking words on the board and I will give them some definitions I will ask them to guess the meanings with their partners to match the words with the definitions. then I will match them correctly and provide them with the correct definitions. after that, I will ask students to repeat the pronunciation of the words.

While-Reading (4-6 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist reading tasks

In this stage, I will ask students to read the text quickly. then I will ask the students a gist question like what was the whole text about OR did the science help the police to solve crimes? they will answer the question.

While-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, inference reading tasks

In this stage, students are asked to read the text carefully (scan the text) to answer the T/F exercise based on reading comprehension + (ICQs) after that, they can check their answers with their partners.

Post-Reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

In this stage, I will ask them to share their ideas with their partner or in a small group about the topics related to crime which I will write on the board +(ICQs) Then ask each person to write a paragraph about one of the topics. then they can read the paragraph in the class and I will give them feedback.
