Description

In this lesson students learn present perfect for las experience as with ever / never, and contrast it in with the past simple. The context of the lesson is shopping. Students begin with a speaking activity about global chain stores, and vocabulary focus on shopping. Then students listen to five people answering questions about shopping and learn grammar from the context. At the end of the lesson students need to create a dialogue by using present perfect for experience, which is followed up with past simple questions.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of present perfect never/ever in the context of shopping.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about conversation about shopping in the context of shopping.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context about chain stores

Students look at photos of global chain stores and discuss if they have ever visited some of them. Students work in pairs and share the experience through discussion.

Pre-Listening (7-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Students do vocabulary bank on the page 155 about shopping. They need to match pictures with words.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information listening tasks

Students listen to the conversation of Kate, Rosi and John answering questions about shopping. They need to find out which chain stores were discussed from the exercise 1.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed istening task

Students need to look at the beginning of Kate's interview and fill missing verbs. They check in pairs.

Post-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the audion about shopping.

Students work in pairs. They need to answer the questions and interview each other sharing their experience with present perfect ever/never.
