Description

In this lesson students learn about different customs and unusual festivals through jigsaw reading method. Then they will learn new grammar about verbs with two objects by doing different activities in Total English- Student's book.

Main Aims

  • To provide gist, detailed and deduction reading practice using a text about The Snake Festival, The Land Diving Festival, The Hong Kong Bun Festival and May Day. in the context of Customs worldwide

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide review and practice of Verbs with two objects in the context of Customs worldwide

Procedure

Warmer (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context about unusual festivals and customs among students.

Students interview 3 students about their favorite festivals and write down their answers.

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the different texts on the topic unusual festivals.

Students look at the pictures and predict which country, which nation and what kind of festival is it by sharing their opinions in pairs.

While-Reading#1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging specific information reading tasks according to their texts

Students read the text and fill in information about their festival while creating expert groups and sharing their information in groups.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (7-10 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging deduction reading tasks.

Students need to create a previous group and fill the table with information about different festivals by interviewing each other.

Post-Reading/Listening (3-5 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and share their opinion.

Students share their opinion by answering to the question: Which festival would you like to go to most? and share their opinion in groups.

End product of the lesson (7-10 minutes) • To introduce verbs with two objects

Students go to page 109 and look at the box of active grammar. They need to create their own unusual festival within groups and use verbs with two objects in their examples to write description.
