Description

In this lesson, students learn about the use of the verb - like in different contexts. The lesson starts with an interactivity activity, where students choose their city of origin and tell well-known sights of their cities in pairs by using useful vocabulary. This is followed by jigsaw reading method, where students read and retell stories about sights of Kazakshtan. Finally students repeat the grammar and see examples of constructions to do activities from the Total English - SB, page 61.

Main Aims

  • To provide review and practice of describing sights in the context of sights of Kazakhstan.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide detailed and deduction reading practice using a text about Top 10 must visit places in Kazakhstan in the context of sights of Kazakstan.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students use mentimeter to answer the question "Which part of Kazakhstan do you come from?" by pinning the map. Then, their task is to tell well known sights of their cities by using useful vocabulary. Students prepare their speech and speak for 1 minutes with each other.

Pre-Reading (5-7 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Students answer to the question "Where would you like to go for a holiday?" by chosing top ten names of destinations from the screen and explains their desicions.

While-Reading#1 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Each student reads individual short text and highlights adjectives used to describe location.

While-Reading #2 (5-7 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Students should answer whether they would like to visit the destination given to them or not. They need to use appropriate vocabulary and provide reasons to support their statement.

Post-Reading (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students need to write a text similar to the given example about their favorite natural place in Kazakhstan. They should use appropriate vocabulary and incorporate the use of 'like' to express their opinions in their copybooks.
