Description

In this lesson plan, students learn about quantifiers: too, too much/many, enough through guided discovery based on examples and learn new grammar of household appliances and devices based on a listening material on the topic Appliance store.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification, review and practice of quantifiers: too, too much, many and enough in the context of house, household applications and devices.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and specific information listening practice using a text about household devices, machines in the context of house.

Procedure

Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To provide students speaking activities in pairs based on a main topic of the lesson.

Students read and ask each other these questions in pairs. 1. Do you think there are too many electronic devices in homes nowadays? Why or why not? 2. Can you share an experience where a machine in your house was too noisy for comfort? 3. Can you describe the refrigerator in your kitchen? Is it big enough for your family's needs?

Pre-Listening (7-10 minutes) • To introduce students unknown words in an inductive way.

Students go to the link in their Whastapp chat and match words with definitions in pairs. There are 8 types of household devices with pictures.

While-Listening #1 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students listen to the recording for the first time and put marks for topics, which were discussed in audio recording. Students do it individually, then check their answers in pairs.

While-Listening #2 (3-5 minutes) • To provide students listening for specific information activity.

Students listen to an audio recording for the second time and fill in the blanks with one word.

Post-Reading/Listening (7-9 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students read questions and answer them by using new grammar.

Grammar section (8-10 minutes) • To learn more new grammar and test students' knowledge.

After discussion students pay attention on highlighted words and will be asked to tell the meaning of quantifiers. After that they will see PPT pages spefically about grammar and do excerсises from Total English-SB: page 59, ex. 6, 7.
