To give Sts practice in reading for specific information in the context of an article about famous failed marriages.

Procedure (40-51 minutes)
Show the Ss a couple of pictures of famous couples. Ask them to say some information about them. Introduce the lesson about famous couples. Ask sts to name some famous world wide couples that they know for example: Romeo and Juliette, Napoleon and Josephine, Micky Mouse and Minnie etc. Divide Ss into teams and create a "hot seat" for each teams. Explain the activity and rules. Conduct a trial example. Use cards the have the names of famous couples. In the same teams Ss report back with what they know about the couples.
Ask Ss to fold the paper in half so only the pictures are shown. Direct Ss attention to the Photos and find out which couples are famous in their country. Put Ss in groups to discuss what they know about the couples in the pictures. Get FB information from the Ss about the couples and name some of their famous art work.
Ask Ss to work together in pairs to find answers to the questions. Check answers with the whole class Get FB from the students Explain any new vocabulary. Drill the new vocab and focus on pronunciation and stress.
Ss read the information more carefully to answer the questions.
Set Lexis Ex.1, pg.17.Encourage the Ss to complete the sentences without looking at the text. Monitor the Ss and give help when needed. Ss Compare their answers in pairs or groups. Ss look back at the text and check answers with the whole class.
Put Ss into groups. Ask Ss to discuss whether they agree or disagree with the sentences. Get some FB from the students.
Put Ss into teams and make each team write the names of a famous couple in their country. Set the roles. In a hot seat game Ss switch papers and the rest of the teams give their leader clues about the couple.
