In this lesson, students will learn new words. Students will be able to deeply understand meaning of the text due to Extensive and Intensive reading method

Materials

Abc Presentation

Main Aims

  • To provide Extensive and Intensive reading practice using a text about Interesting facts in the context of Studying, Antarctic food chain, Music

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide clarification of Food chain, Carbon dioxide, Krill, Photosynthesis, Consumer in the context of Antarctic food chain

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (7-7 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher asks some questions about topics of the text: 1. What do you think this text is about? 2. What interesting facts do you know? 3. Do you have a preference for facts related to science, history, culture, or any other area?

Pre-Reading (5-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

Teacher gives new words according to the text and asks students to write down them: 1. Food chain 2. Carbon dioxide 3. Photosynthesis 4.Krill 5. Consumer

While-Reading/Extensive reading (10-10 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Students should read text one time rapidly and answer the questions: 1. What is this text about? Name 3 general topics 2. Did you know this facts before? 3. What is the most interesting fact you've come across in your reading?

While-Reading/Intensive reading (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading tasks

Students should underline which statement is true and which is false 1. Do your homework 1-3 time per week. T/F 2. Plankton is a tiny plants that lives in lakes and rivers. T/F 3. Planktons produce food through photosynthesis. T/F 4. Krill are eaten by whales. T/F 5. Patients with backaches recovered more quickly if they listened to music every morning. T/F

Post-Reading (10-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Students should read the text one more time, but paying more attention to details and answer the questions: 1. Are there any technical terms or vocabulary used in the text that you're unfamiliar with? 2. How does the author explain or define these terms in the context of the text? 3. Do you agree with the author's assessment of the facts presented? Why or why not? 4. Can you identify any biases or perspectives in the author's presentation?
