Description
Materials
Main Aims
-
To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of Body Language
Subsidiary Aims
-
To provide review of adjectives in the context of a good friend
Procedure (52-60 minutes)
Students will be asked: What characteristics should a person have so that you can call them a good friend? The adjectives that the students mention will be written on the board to help everyone recall the words and phrases with their meaning. Then they will be asked about what they would do if they found out their friend had lied to them. Have they ever wanted to have the power to understand if someone is lying to them.
A part of a TED Talk video about how reading peoples body language has helped an officer to find a murder who was lying and denying the crime he had done will be played.
Phrases related to reading people's body language will be chosen from the video and the meaning will be discussed with whole class.
The students will be asked to discuss the following questions in groups of 3 or 4. 1. Do you think it is good to have the power to read people's body language? 2. Do you want to be trained and gain this power? 3. In what cases will you use it?
They have been monitored during the discussion and the whole class will be given some feedback on any misuses of the phrases or grammatical mistakes they may have had.
