Main Aims

  • To provide detailed reading practice using a text about living abroad in the context of shopping and carnivals/festivals.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of shopping and festivals around the world

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (8-10 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students, to talk about the topics given in activity 1A

T says: Hello and welcome friends! we will start today with talking about one of my favorite topics, shopping! - switches to slide 2- what did you buy last,?- shows students 2 items, talks about them for a minute. Then,students are sent to the breakout rooms to speak about slides 2-3 and 4. I am going to put you in pairs, ask each other the questions on slides 2,3 an 4.Take notes of your partner's answers. ask one of the students: which slides will you work on? are you going to just listen to them?

Pre-Reading/Vocabulary (3-5 minutes) • To get the potential unknown words out of the way, making the reading experience seamless

T says: Now, let's look at these pictures, what do you see? see,it says "piazza", so what is? T elicits the answers from students.

While-Reading 1 ( Reading for gist) (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with a gist task to provide a general understanding of the texts

T says: read the text and decide who does these - showing slide 7- write L ,D or both. you have 5 mins. write you answers on the chatbox when you finish. T:do we talk when we finish? what do choose one of the options? Answers are checked, then T: Did anyone do any mistakes?

While-Reading 2 Reading for details (6-8 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading

T: now, we will read again, but this time, we will decide if these sentences are true or false. then we correct the wrong ones. you have 5 mins. T: do we write names next to the sentences? What do we do if they are wrong? raise a hand when you finish- I will send you to breakout rooms to check with your friends. T sends them to breakout rooms to check with each other. when they come back, get whole class feedback, appointing the Ss to point out the sentences with the answers. T: is there anyone who did 1 wrong? 2?

Post-Reading 1 (3-4 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T asks students to read the text and answer the question on slide 10, explaining their reasons. Nominates students.

Post-Reading 2 (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

T sends the students to breakout rooms to talk about the questions on the slide 11. When they come back, nominates and gets answers from a few students.
