Description

In this lesson the students are going to learn about second conditional through a text and also they are going to learn how to use it during a speaking task.

Materials

Abc American English File Student's Book 2
Abc Board

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of second conditional in the context of animals

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of animals

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I start to ask the students which animal they would chose if they had the ability to transform into an animal and why.

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

I'm going to write some of the second conditional sentences which students said on the board and I fix their errors while I'm writing them.

Clarification (5-6 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

I will start to clarify the grammar and the usage of it. I also write some zero and first conditional sentences to show them the difference and at last I write the structure of it on the board by asking the students.

Controlled Practice (3-4 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

The students are going to do the exercise b on page 143 individually and then they are going to check in pairs. At the end we will check them with the whole class.

Free Practice (3-4 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I will ask the students to answer the speaking part on page 69 in groups of 3 by focusing on the TL.
