Description

In this lesson students are going to learn about passive sentences through a listening , which is about women inventions. A picture of a very coolinvention is used as a leadin . The clarification part provides the context for detailed information about passive form and the meaning of passive sentences. Students are going to underline the stresses after listening to the audio again. This is followed by controlled practice and freer practice on the passive form.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Teacher sticks a picture of an invention on the board and talks about the usage and the qualties of that invention and how it makes our life easier. Teacher will say the name of the inventor using passive voice.

Exposure (1-2 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students will have to talk about an invention and how it makes our life easier. They can mention the name of the inventor if they remember.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

At first students are going to make predictions about what they are going to listen to. Then, teacher asks the students to listen carefully and write down the names of all the inventions that are mentioned in the audio. Play the audio for the first time and check the answers. Ask the students to listen again and say who were they invented by.

Clarification (10-15 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

MEANING: Teacher writes 3 passive sentences from listening on the board. Have an explanation about the meaning of passive sentences. (The passive voice is used to show intrest in the person or object that ecperience an action rather than person or object that peforms the action) Ask CCQs: *What is common in these 3 sentences? (the names of the inventors come at last. And the names of the inventions come at first.) *Are we intrested in the inventions or the person who invented it? FORM: Teacher asks the students to help her write the structure of active voice for a review (subject+verb+object+rest of the sentance) Then writes a correct structure for turning an active sentence to passive: (object+verb to be+past participle+by+subject) Have a quick review of past participle. Tell all to be verbs of past and present simple. remind the students that passive is not a tense and it can be used in all the teneces. CCQs: give an example and ask the students to turn it to passive form. *Make yes no question. *Turn it to negative form. *turn it to past asn present. Give another example and do the same exercise. PRONUNCIATION: Teacher is going to play hte audio and the students will have to write 3 passive sentences and underline the stressed word. Remind them that information words are the ones which are usually stressed. Play the audio again and pause after each sentence for students to repeat and copu the rhythm.

Controlled Practice (1-3 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

students are going to have a few minutes to do the activities in pairs. Have an example af first to help them know what to do. check the answers and give FB

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students are instructed to choose one invention. they have to create an advertisment and mention the uses of the product in a creative manner. Once the task is complete, SS exchangetheir works with their partners. They have to write one thing they liked and one thing thet can be improved.
