Description

This lesson will start with a game called "what would you do if...", after we played it for a while I'll go ahead and pick one of their sentences and write it on the board then I'll ask them to guess the part of speech of each word in that sentence. after introducing the structure to them I will point out some tips about the correct usage of the grammar. then I want them to do an exercise for further practices. after all I want them to take turn and answer the question "what would she/he be if he was an (animal for example)?" about their classmates one by one.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of Second Conditional in the context of hypothetical situations

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a conversation in the context of hypothetical situations

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

In this part we will play a game. I will upload a file that consists of a board game. in this game students will take turns and answer to each question that is written on each block for example "what would you do if you could have any job?"

Highlighting (1-2 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Now I'll pick one of their sentences from the game they just played and write it on the board.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

then I'll ask them about the tenses that are used in each part and shortly compare it with a first conditional sentence as a review. after that I want them to guess the part of speech of each word and write it down for them. and with the aim of some more examples I'll tell them when should they use this grammar and how to use it correctly.

Controlled Practice (2-5 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Here, I want them to go to page 143 and do the exercise 9A(b). after they did it we will check the answers together.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

I want them to take turn and answer the question "what would she/he be if he was an (animal for example)?" about their classmates one by one.
