In this lesson students discuss about breakfast food, and they read about English breakfast, which is usually offered in hotels in the U.K. They are also reading about daily routine of Phil (one of their Teen2Teen friends)

Main Aims

  • To provide reading practice using a text about Daily routine in the context of to answer to question of an online message board

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of daily routine

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

On the board write Do you have cheese and bread for breakfast? Discuss breakfast foods with the class. show the picture of some common breakfast foods of 2 or 3 countries and ask your students' opinion about them.

Test #1 (8-10 minutes) • To gauge students' prior knowledge of the target language

Encourage your students to describe their breakfast using I have... and any words in English that they know. After that ask your student's classmates about that food and help them to answer with yes I do/ no I don't

Teach (15-20 minutes) • To clarify areas of the target language where students had difficulty in the first test stage

Ask your students to say their idea about the picture of the reading in the book, then play an audio file. read aloud and clarify new words' usage, such as the verbs eat and have are both used to talk about meals and food. to talk about drinks, have is more common, but drink is also correct. right after means immediately after. ask your students to read a text.

Test #2 (8-10 minutes) • Check students' use of the target language again and compare with the first test

Ask students to find who's posting? where is he from? is his accent British or American? what time does he get up? what time does he go to bed? is exercise part of his daily routine? After you are sure about your students' comprehension ask them to do exercises 2 and 3 then check them.

Free practice (13-15 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Show your PowerPoint which is about daily routine ask your students to write some clues on the paper to help them to talk about their daily routine. Encourage them to use adverbs of frequency and the new words that they learn.
