Main Aims

  • To provide listening practice using a text about asking/giving information in the context of phone calls

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide speaking practice in a telephone conversation

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Ss will watch a video taken from Ellen D´s TV show. In the video Ellen calls a viewer in order to gift her with ba ticket for the show. With this video we´ll introduce the topic (phone calls)

Pre-Reading/Listening (8-10 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

The T will elicit some basic functional language about phonecalling. Pre-reading excercise pag 11(Tune ın)

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

Ss will listen to the track and complete ex 2a and 2b, page 11 (function of the call). Group correction

While-Reading/Listening #2 (12-14 minutes) • To provide students with more challenging detailed, deduction and inference reading/listening tasks

Ss will be exposed to ex 3 page 12 and will complete ex 3a and 3b. Correction with the class

Post-Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

The T will divide ss in three groups and ask them to order the sentences in order to compose a typical phone call.

Productive skill (15-20 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to expand on what they've learned

Ss, ın couple, will prepare a role play: student A ıs callıng a student B, but he s not at home. Leave a message. Ss will have a post it in which he/she is supposed to write down the message.
