  • To provide practice of past simple and past perfect tenses in the context of narrating a personal story

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency speaking practice in talking about things you've dreamed of doing
  • To provide clarification of using past simple and past continuous in the same sentence.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-2 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

What is something you have always dreamed of doing? (Miro)

Exposure (7-8 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Read the story individually (5 min) Answer questions individually (1-2 min) Review in OCFB (1 min)

Highlighting (3-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Elicit differences between the sentences and CCQs. (Miro) (1 min) Labeling the tenses. (Google Form) (2 min) Reviewing answers in OCFB (1 min)

Clarification (8-9 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Meaning: cline exercise (2 min) Form: 1) build a sentence (1-2 min) 2) label the parts of speech (1-2 min) 3) review the positive and negative forms (1-2 min) Pronunciation: 1) Elicit pronunciation of the contractions. (1 min)

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1) Pick the past continuous form (2-3 min) 2) Fill in the blank with the past continuous (3-4 min) 3) Check with partners (2-3 min)

Freer Practice (12-14 minutes) • To concept check further and prepare students for free practice

1) Narrate stories using past simple and past continuous that answer the prompt ("what is something you had always dreamed of doing and finally did?") (8-10 min) 2) Share 1-2 stories with the class (1-2 min) 3) DEC (2-3 min)
