Ss will be immersed in the use of functional language to articulate their ideas to talk about liking or disliking activities. With a focus on meaning, form, and pronunciation, students harness the potential of language using expressions that help them to clarify ideas.

Main Aims

  • To provide clarification of gerunds in the context of expressing opinios about liking and disliking activities

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for expressing liking and disliking in the context of hobbies
  • To provide fluency speaking practice in a conversation in the context of expressing opinions about activities

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (2-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Show Ss pictures about different activities. Ask Ss about opinions related to their hobbies.

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Show Ss a short reading about the use of gerund. Highlight meaning, form, and pronuntiation. Drill with Ss the activity.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Show Ss some linguistic functions that could be used to express their liking or disliking. Ask Ss to use them using their same hobbies as example. Show Ss fixed part and using of gerund.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Show Ss the target language. Allow Ss to see some sentences with TL. Ask Ss for meaning. Elicit from Ss form. Drill with Ss pronuntiation.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Using google forms, show Ss sentences that allow them to work with TL. Ask Ss to fill in some blanks. Ask Ss to check in pairs.

Free Practice (8-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ask Ss to share their opinions about some topics. Ask them to talk about good and bad thing about them. Allow Ss to work in pair and sharte their opinions.
