Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice and clarification of modals and semi-modals used to talk about willingness in the context of types of marriages

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide gist and scan reading practice using a text about types of marriages
  • To provide fluency and accuracy speaking practice in a discussion in the context of types of marriages

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. T greets ss 2. T displays slides and shows a picture and plays an audio. a. What can you see in the picture? (proposal) b. Do you want to get married?

Exposure (4-6 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

1. T shows a text and asks ss to read it to get the general idea and highlight the modals/phrases they can find to express willingness.

Clarification (14-16 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

1. T sends the slides to ss. 2. Ss match each TL item with the definition in BORs. 3. Ss go back to the main room for FB. 4. Ss find the stress and linking in some sentences in BORs. 5. Main room for FB.

Controlled Practice (6-8 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

1. Ss reorganize the sentences in BORs.

Free Practice (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

1. T shares some questions. 2. Ss discuss in BORs questions related to the topic using the TL. 3. Error correction in the main room.
