Description

In this lesson students will learn how to use the present simple to talk about their daily routine through guided discovery based on a reading text about daily routine. The lesson starts with showing the students some pictures of daily house chores and asking them to say which one is their favorite and least favorite. then they read the text and I ask them some comprehension questions about it. then we elicit the grammar rule together, finally we have some controlled then free practice.

Materials

Abc Comprehension Questions hand out, Fill in the gaps hand out. Paragraph writing hand out.

Main Aims

  • To provide the needed knowledge for the students to be able to use the present simple to talk about their daily routines.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide fluency in speaking about their daily routine.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will put some pictures of the household chores on the board and ask each student what is their most and least favorite chore.

Exposure (7-12 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

I will show them the text and ask them to read it for a couple of minutes. then give them the handout with the comprehension questions and divide them into groups to work on answering these questions. I then listen to their answers and ask them more CCQs to make sure they understand the text.

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Write two sentences form the text and ask the students some detailed questions to try to come up with the form for the language.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Elicit the language by writing a sustenance on the board and asking them about each word's position in the sentence while writing them down. Then I read the sentence and ask them about the stress and intonations. and write them down. We elicit the negative form and then drill the sentences together.

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Show them the text again and ask them to each say the sentence that has present simple talking about daily routine. then I give them the handout with fill in the gaps practice. while monitoring them from behind.

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ask the students each to write a short paragraph about their daily routine using their favorite chores as examples. then I put them in pairs and each pair tell each other their daily routine. I ask the students to correct each other if needed. then ask each pair to talk about their friends' daily routine.
