Procedure (37-49 minutes)
Show students a picture of students at school and a picture of a report card. Discuss these questions in groups: When you were at school, did you get a report card at the end of every semester or year? Were they usually good or bad? Did you always show them to your parents?
Students read some extracts from "Could do Better," a collection of famous people’s school report cards. After reading, they answer some questions related to the reading text.
Teacher elicits the meaning of the marker sentences. Teacher elicits the form of the positive and negative sentences. Teacher models the pronunciation of the sentences and highlights the stressed words.
Checking the meaning by asking concept checking questions.
Teacher shows a picture of a man in the past and on the present. Students write 5 sentences about the man in the past using "used to".
