To provide accuracy speaking practice in a drilliing of expressions in the context of useful language about calendars
Procedure (36-45 minutes)
Show Ss an image with different situations as someone in the hospital, at a wedding, at a birthday party, at a wedding anniversary, and at a New Year party. Ask Ss What would you say in one of those situations to other people?
Play an audio with some expressions. Show a list of phrases that go with those expressions as answers. Stop the audio when it's necessary to respond to those and ask Ss to answer according to what they listened to choose the proper answer. Ask other Ss to be the judge and tell if it's correct or not.
Show Ss the language functions: March 2nd is my mother’s birthday. For July I put the 19th because…. July 10th is the day when… In Colombia, July 20th is a very important date because… In May we always go Wat happens /happened / is happening on July 4th? What do you usually do on October 31st? Why did you put on December 25th? Why is January 1st important for you? Explain the meaning, form, and pronunciation of the fixed part. Ask Ss to make examples.
Have Ss fill a calendar with the five most important dates for them. Ask Ss to make pair work. Ask Ss to show that calendar. Have Ss ask questions about the reasons for those dates. Ss should share if they have some similar dates. Ss will expose the dates of other Ss in front of the whole group. Other Ss can share if they have similar dates.
Ask Ss to share one expression that could improve according to what they hear in the exposition. Write down that sentence, and elicit the proper structure from Ss. Give feedback using prompts.
