In this lesson Ss will practice reading for gist in the context of short story, and then Ss are expected to write a similar paragraph using the target langauge.

Procedure

Pre-Reading/Listening (1-6 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

T will start the session by asking Ss about how they spent their Moolid. - T will keep eliciting answers from Ss until I get close to the target word, which is "carnival". - If they didn't get close to it, T will use this as an introduction to the 1-minute lead-in video, which represent carnivals. - After they watch the video, T will send them in pairs/groups to discuss some questions about carnivals, for example ' what the people are doing in the video, Have you seen this celebration before ? - When they are done, T will make sure they shared the answers together.

Pre-Teaching Vocabulary (10-12 minutes) • To prepare the students for the text by teaching them the blocking words.

T will show pictures for SS to elicit the meaning of the word and follow up all the targeted vocabulary by using MFP (meaning, form, pronunciation)

Reading for gist (5-10 minutes) • To generate general information about the text of the lesson.

- T will ask Ss to read the text silently in 5 minutes and try to the understand what is happening in brief. - When they finish reading, T will send them in pairs/groups to discuss what they understood for 2 minutes. -Using ICQs to make sure they got the instructions clearly.

Reading for specific information (5-10 minutes) • To generate specific information about the text of the lesson.

T ask Ss to do the task in ex 3 , by give Ss one minute to look at the sentences and then read the text again to fill the gaps. Ask ICQs to confirm Ss understanding of the task. check in pairs and then provide the correct answers.

Text Analysis (3-5 minutes) • To give the students a chance to analyze the useful language in the text

T will show them a picture of missing words. T will ask them to find the missing words in the text. T will give them a hint that those words are underlined. Twill use ICQs to make sure they got the instructions clearly. check in pairs and then provide the correct answer

Post-Reading (1-10 minutes) • To provide with an opportunity to respond to the text and expand on what they've learned

Play a quick Kahoot game

Writing (10-15 minutes) • To give the students a chance to reflect on the text by writing.

T will ask Ss to write a paragraph about a carnival they have attended before. - If they haven't attended one, Ss will be asked to imagine one and write about it. - T will make sure they use the useful language (text analysis) in their writing. - I will use ICQs to make sure they got the instructions clearly. - When they finish, T will ask everyone to share their paragraphs him/her.

Feedback/ Delay error correction (5-10 minutes) • To give the students content and language feedback on their paragraphs.

Correct Ss mistakes by themselves whenever found. Praise Ss for using target language.
