Main Aims

  • To provide gist reading practice using a text about talking or not talking in the context of social life

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide scan reading practice using a text about too macho to talk? in the context of social life

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

I will involve Ss with the topic through some cartoons of famous animations and try to motivate Ss to give their advice for this kind of situation.

Pre-Reading/Listening (10-12 minutes) • To prepare students for the text and make it accessible

I will teach essential lexis in the context of the text from AEF . It Obviously makes the text so comprehensible. I will definitely focus on blocking and keywords in this stage.

While-Reading/Listening #1 (10-12 minutes) • To provide students with less challenging gist and specific information reading/listening tasks

I will cover the gist skill in this stage and by asking some questions I let the Ss get the whole idea of the text.

While-Reading/Listening #2 (14-16 minutes) • skimming skill

I will give Ss a part of the text for example ' problem A', and then I will ask them some specific questions. I will check their answers and try to monitor them while asking the reason for giving these or those answers.

while-Reading #3 (10-13 minutes) • Deep reading

Ss have their time to read deeply the whole text and then answer their question. I put Ss in groups and I check their answers without any interference. Although I will monitor them while they are trying to clarify their answers for the other Ss, I will finally give them feedback.

Post-Reading/List (8-10 minutes) • free practice

Ss have the opportunity to practice what they have already learned with the productive skills of speaking. I will ask SS to write their problems on a piece of paper, they can even type it if they don't feel comfortable, the others should pick one of them and try to answer it, they can either type their answers or explain it in the class.
