Description

In this lesson students will learn how to talk about past events using Past Simple in the context of housework. The lesson will start with the revision of Chores vocabulary. Then they proceed to the text about chores made by a boy yesterday. Then clarification of Past Simple follows, after that an activity with controlled practice and free practice via talking which housework students did yesterday.

Main Aims

  • By the end of the lesson students will have been able to talk about chores they did in the past time using Past Simple

Subsidiary Aims

  • Students will practise their speaking skills by talking about chores in the past

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Students look at the picture and describe kids doing some chores.

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a text or situation

Students will read the text and identify which chores a boy did yesterday. After reading students work in pairs and compare their answers, then Teacher elicits the correct answers

Highlighting (2-4 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Teacher asks students what time is the story about: Past, Present or Future? How did they understand that? Then ask them to underline all verbs in the text.

Clarification (8-10 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Teacher elicits that the verbs changed their form: they have got the ending -ed. T. clarifies the form of regular verbs and drill the pronounciation

Controlled Practice (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Students fill in the gaps with correct form of the verbs. After that they work and compare answers in pairs. T. elicits the correct answers

Free Practice (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Students work together and discuss which chores they did yesterday. T. listens and monitor for correct usage of Past Simple
