Description

In this lesson, students will learn new vocabulary on the topic. Then they will watch and read the text. To check comprehension, students will be given the task of completing the sentences and matching headings with paragraphs. Also, students will work in groups and create their own fun race.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (1-3 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

Organization moment: 1.Greeting. 2. Organization moment. Before beginning of the lesson Teacher asks the questions. Teacher checks the homework. Students work in pairs and discuss the pictures. They will try to guess the topic of the lesson.

Check the meaning (3-5 minutes) • To draw students' attention to the target language

Vocabulary. Championship, field, stick, spray, track, reach, outer, world record, tankard, paddle, cross, competition, hilarious, local, pond.

Pre-listening (3-5 minutes) • To clarify the meaning, form and pronunciation of the target language

Ss repeat the words and give examples. Explain their meanings and copy them into a copybook. SS will try to give examples.

Listening (8-10 minutes) • To provide context for the target language through a listening

Look at the pictures. What do you know about these races? Discuss with your partner. Write three questions. Listen then read to find out. Text Fun Races.

Post-listening (8-10 minutes) • To concept check and prepare students for more meaningful practice

Then they read again and complete the sentences with the word or phrase from the text. The aim: to present usage of new words and phrases. Efficiency: to improve listening / reading skills.

Grammar practice (8-10 minutes) • The aim: using correctly prompts and relative pronoun. Efficiency: improve their writing skills.

Ss in pairs make sentences using the prompts and relative pronoun in brackets, as in the example. Differentiation: All Ss understand the instruction. Teacher helps to the less able students.

Goup work: Create your own fun race (8-10 minutes) • To provide students with free practice of the target language

Ss work in group. SS create their own fun race. Think where / when it takes place, who can participate, what he rules are. Present it to the class.

End of the lesson (2-4 minutes) • to analyze the general comprehension of the Ss.

To check general comprehension of the Ss. Ss share one fact that impressed them most from today’s lesson. Home assignment: New words, Sb. Ex. 5-7 P. 19
