Description

This is a lesson on Functional Language. On this session the students will learn how to use Functional Exponents to introduce themselves professionaly.

Materials

Main Aims

  • To provide practice of language used for introducing onelsef in the context of professional job interview.

Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide accuracy speaking practice in a introducing onelsef in the context of professional job interview.
  • To provide a short paragraph with guidelines of relevant information regarding the introduction of oneself.

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

The students will be shown a picture of a group of people in a waiting room expecting a job interview. They will discuss, what do you think is the subject of today?

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

In this stage of the class the students will learn about the situations when to sound professional and other things to have in mind when introducing oneself. They will follow a guideline to introduce their name, occupation, and focus on the value they can bring to certain company. I will also play about two minutes of a video exposing the subject and the target language.

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

In this stage of the class the students will learn examples of functional exponents that will help them to sound professional and formal. They will analyze also the stress within the sentences, and if there are any cases of connected speech.

Productive Task(s) (18-20 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

In this stage of the class the learners will write a short dialogue in pairs, and then they will act it out having their partner to play their employer. They must use the target language for the production of the role play. If any questions may rise they will be solved.

Feedback and Error Correction (8-10 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

In the final stage, any mistakes they make with pronunciation or doubts that may rise will be clarified, but I´m confident the students will do just fine.
