Subsidiary Aims

  • To provide practice of language used in the context of firsts

Procedure

Warmer/Lead-in (3-5 minutes) • To set lesson context and engage students

1. I will ask my Ss to participate in a brainstorming activity to discuss the next question. What are important first times in people´s lives? 2. Then I will display some pictures to elicit the idea of the activity

Exposure (8-10 minutes) • To provide a model of production expected in coming tasks through reading/listening

I will ask Ss to read an article and match each paragrapgh on it with some headings. For this activity Ss will have 3 minutes. Then, Iwill send them to breakoutrooms to discuss their answers. As soon as they come back, I will display a slide with the correct answers

Useful Language (8-10 minutes) • To highlight and clarify useful language for coming productive tasks

I will send a google form link, where students will try to match the meaning of some useful vocabulary in the context of firsts. For this activity they will have 2 minutes. Then, I will show them the correct answers and I will elicit the form to use that vocabulary in a sentence. I will model the new vocabulary and I will ask Ss to repeat chorally.

Productive Task(s) (12-15 minutes) • To provide an opportunity to practice target productive skills

I will ask Ss to think about their own firsts and I will provide them some criteria to follow. Then I will say my example. Ss will have 3 minutes to create their own firsts. After they will go to some breakout rooms to discuss and share their stories for about 5 minutes. If there are enough students, I will rotate them into breakout rooms to share their stories with each other. As soon as they finish with this interaction, I will display a slide with following questions. 1. The funniest story? 2. The saddest story? 3. The strangest story? Ss will return to breakout rooms to answer these questions.

Feedback and Error Correction (3-5 minutes) • To provide feedback on students' production and use of language

I will take notes regarding the production and use of the language by Ss, and I will have an open class feedback, which will be the final stage.
